Chandni Industries, a Playing Cards manufacturer, knows, which is the best card to play while investing in new technology. The recent addition being a Heidelberg SM 74.
Mr.Vipul Jain of Chandni Industries has been in the business of manufacturing Playing Cards for the last over half a century now, and still going strong. A man of few words, his father started the business way back in 1961 with the age old Chandler machines, as was the availability back then.
The company today produces Playing Cards, PVC Playing Cards, Japan Playing Cards etc. and have their reach spread across to states as far as Gujarat, Andhra, Bihar as well as UP in addition to Delhi and surrounding areas. Exports too is an area which Vipul personally looks into. They recently invested in a Heidelberg SM 74, 4 colour press.
“The speed and quality of the Heidelberg SM 74 were the only two major reasons for us to opt for this beauty of a machine” beams Mr.Vipul. “In 1983 we added our first offset machine, an Adast Dominat 19″x26″ which helped us to increase the quality as well as print production speed” he added. Vipul joined the business in 1994 and back then their market was restricted only in and around Delhi. Gradually he was instrumental in spreading their market to other parts of the country as well. Unlike printers who have to run their machines 24 hours inorder to meet the RoI, Vipul finds his in a 8 hour shift and still meeting his production targets, thanks to his new Heidelberg press. “Since what we print is our own product, we are able to achieve the RoI in our own way and so we do not need to run the machines for more hours, neither do I intend to – considering the market demand and our limited market presence” Vipul adds. Chandni Industries, in addition to the newly added Heidelberg equipment do also operate in their unit, a few old machines like Bestec and Akiyama as well as a few 2 colour Heidelbergs. Along with this is the need for special coating machines from Autoprint (Coimbatore), Alpana Varnish (Delhi) as well as APL machinery (Faridabad).
Playing Card industry requires special die cutting machines which are pneumatic based for pressure die cutting of round cornered playing cards. “I have two high end Chinese machines for the pneumatic cutting of our cards which increases our production as well as gives consistent quality”. chips in Vipul. Being a specialised industry, Playing cards production needs specialised machines to make ends meet. The printed sheets are first scored on a rotary cutting both horizontally as well as vertically and then stripped on the go to get the straight cornered cards ready which then is passed through the pneumatic die cutter to get the perfectly round corner cut product out for packing.
With a production need of about 150000 sheets per day, half the need is fulfilled by the new Heidelberg machine. Chandni Industries today has a turnover of about 21 crores per year.
The Speedmaster SM74-4 is equipped with automation features like ‘Auto Plate’ that ensure quicker plate changes, cutting down make-ready and setup times notably vs. other presses. A highly automated feeder with central suction tape handles a wide array of print substrates, from thin paper to board, ranging in thickness from 0.03 mm to 0.6 mm. High production speeds of up to 15,000 sheets per hour can be achieved with the Speedmaster SM 74-4.
